この茶碗が光を受容し、反射し、
返す角度に当たると虹彩が浮かび上がる。
自然光ではなおさら浮かび上がる。
ようへんは普通曜変と書くが、桶谷の場合燿変である。
星雲状の斑文は、ほぼ見込全面に出ている。
見込底は釉溜り厚く、漆黒に沈んでいる。
そこへ星雲が吸い込まれていくような印象である。
胴回りはいわゆる禾目、兎毫の景色を呈す。
こちらも光が強いほど重層的な奥行きが見えてくる。
釉は高台脇の削り際で、ぴたりと厚く止まっている。
高台の削り出しはきわめて細心丁寧で、
なにか成形段階における
彼の決意と祈りのようなものを感じさせる。
これを得るための桶谷の情熱を思う。
逃げ水を追うような行為なのであろう。
彼は偶然の賜物だという。
しかしこの偶然は桶谷にしか降って来ない偶然だと言える。

Works with wooden boxes already made for them include the price of the box in the product price. As for works without wooden boxes, we can, at the buyer’s request, have a box made for a separate fee. About ten days are necessary for a box to be made and then inscribed by the artist. For example : a paulownia wood box with a two-cleat lid with cords would be 2,500 yen for a sake cup, or 3,500yen for a tea bowl.
